Whitby remembrance ceremonies will include a National Indigenous Veterans Day gathering in Brooklin on November 8 and three Remembrance Day services on November 11, according to the Town’s November 1 newsletter.
All four ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The newly published arrangements provide specific locations and hosts, beyond the awareness-day dates listed in the Town’s earlier November observances notice.
Brooklin gathering on November 8
The National Indigenous Veterans Day ceremony takes place Sunday, November 8, at the Brooklin Cenotaph beside the Brooklin Community Centre and Library, 8 Vipond Road.
Whitby’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee is coordinating the event with guidance from Elder Tom Cowie of Hiawatha First Nation. The municipal update identifies Cowie as a veteran and Knowledge Keeper.
Three locations on November 11
Residents can attend a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Whitby Cenotaph, 109 Dundas Street East, hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 152 will host the Brooklin Cenotaph ceremony at 8 Vipond Road. A third ceremony, hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces, is planned for Intrepid Park at 2008 Boundary Road.
The November 11 services share the same 11 a.m. start time; they are separate gatherings rather than successive stops on a single programme.
The Whitby remembrance ceremonies notice does not announce road closures, shuttle transport or a change to the listed start times. Residents should consult the Town’s current event information for any subsequent arrangements before travelling.
