Nominations are open for the 21st annual Whitby youth awards, recognizing residents aged 12 to 18 who have made positive contributions to the community.
The Town of Whitby’s Celebrating Youth Awards honour young people whose volunteer work, selfless actions or involvement in school and community organizations demonstrate leadership and a commitment to making the town a better place.
Nominations due October 23
Submissions must be completed by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 23. The town is accepting nominations through its youth-events website.
Past honourees have been recognized for fundraising and advocacy connected with organizations including The Denise House, Operation EcoPen, Girl Up and the Malala Fund. A nomination should explain the young person’s contribution and the effect it has had in Whitby.
Ceremony planned for November 26
Nominees and award recipients will be celebrated at a ceremony on Thursday, November 26. Residents, schools, teams and community organizations can nominate an eligible young person.
The awards are intended to highlight work that can otherwise happen quietly, including volunteering, community-building, peer leadership and support for local or wider causes.
