Whitby Santa Shuffle support is helping the Salvation Army provide food and seasonal assistance to thousands of local residents, according to new figures released by the organization.
Money raised through registrations and fundraising for the annual Santa Shuffle helped provide 347 Christmas hampers in 2025. The hampers reached 624 adults, 152 teenagers and 422 children in Whitby. The organization also distributed 1,688 toys to children during the Christmas season.
Food-bank support continues throughout the year
The Salvation Army said the event’s impact extends beyond its December run and walk. Santa Shuffle proceeds help stock its Whitby food bank during the rest of the year.
More than 500 households use the food-support program each month, representing over 1,600 people. Those figures show that the fundraiser supports an ongoing local service rather than only a one-day holiday campaign.
The official report did not provide a dollar total for the 2025 event or a detailed breakdown of food-bank spending. It did, however, connect registration and fundraising revenue directly to hamper, toy, food-bank and camp programs.
Whitby children to receive camp opportunities
The organization also plans to provide 15 Whitby children with a week at overnight camp in summer 2027. The camp opportunity is another use of the community support associated with the Santa Shuffle.
Volunteers help with setup, service and encouragement along the route. The Salvation Army said some participants remain involved after race day by volunteering in other programs or joining its church community.
