Whitby campus parking and vehicle access will change at Durham College beginning Tuesday, September 8, when separate entrances take effect for permit-only and daily-parking areas.
Durham College says its Whitby campus lot has been divided into a gated area for designated permit holders and an ungated area serving other permit holders and daily parkers. Drivers will need to choose the entrance that matches the type of access they require.
Daily parkers must enter from Stellar Drive
Drivers using the ungated area, including daily parkers and ungated permit holders, must enter through the east entrance on Stellar Drive. The Champlain Avenue entrance will not provide access to this section.
Daily spaces will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The college recommends approaching the campus from Stellar Drive when navigating to the ungated or daily-parking lot.
Students being dropped off may use the Champlain Avenue bus loop near the main entrance to the Don Lovisa Building.
Champlain Avenue reserved for gated access
South-gated permit holders must use the Champlain Avenue entrance and will require an access card. Daily parking will not be offered in the gated section.
Delivery drivers should also use the Champlain Avenue entrance. The college advises people expecting a delivery to tell the driver to use the intercom to request entry.
For navigation, drivers heading to the gated lot can enter 1610 Champlain Avenue into their GPS. Those heading to the ungated area should approach through the Stellar Drive east entrance instead.
Transit stops remain near the east entrance
Durham Region Transit passengers can use the Stellar Drive stop numbered 94371 or the Champlain Avenue stop numbered 94372. Both are located near the east entrance, according to Durham College.
The changes arrive as fall classes begin and campus traffic increases. Allowing extra time on the first few days may help drivers adjust to the divided lot and avoid reaching an entrance that does not serve their parking type.
Anyone needing assistance with permits, access cards or parking rules can contact Parking Services. The Parking Office is located at The Link, room SCI 1004, in the Science Building where it connects with the Gordon Willey Building’s Justice Wing.
