An Oshawa collision involving a woman and children crossing a street left a toddler with critical injuries on Wednesday morning, according to DurhamRegion.com’s reporting of information from Durham police.
The collision happened at Ryerson Crescent and Sheridan Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. on October 21. The newsroom reports that the pedestrians were struck by a vehicle whose driver was turning.
Durham Regional Police confirmed in a public road-closure notice that the intersection was closed for a collision investigation, that multiple injuries had been reported and that an Ornge air ambulance had been requested. Police asked drivers to find another route.
Hospital treatment reported
DurhamRegion.com reported that the toddler had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, with transfer by air ambulance to a Toronto-area trauma centre planned. It also reported that the woman and three other children had minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
CTV’s initial October 21 report separately confirmed that a woman and children had been struck and that a toddler was in critical condition. Early reports differed in the number of children described, so the more detailed injury count above is attributed specifically to DurhamRegion.com’s updated account.
Investigation continues
No names or ages beyond the description of a toddler were provided in the reporting reviewed. The available information did not establish charges, a cause or a finding of fault.
The police notice and updated local reporting identified the intersection as closed. Drivers should follow current police directions and posted closures rather than assuming a reopening time that has not been announced.
