Residents across Durham Region can expect warm, summer-like weather on Saturday, June 27, with sunshine, increasing humidity, and temperatures that will feel close to 30 C throughout the day.
According to Environment Canada, Oshawa, Pickering, and much of southern Ontario will begin Saturday with mainly sunny skies before warm afternoon conditions settle across the region. While the forecast calls for a daytime high near 26 C, elevated humidity will make it feel significantly warmer, with Humidex values reaching approximately 30 C.
The pleasant weather is expected to encourage outdoor activities, community events, and visits to local parks, beaches, and trails. However, residents are reminded to take precautions when spending extended periods outdoors as humidity levels increase throughout the afternoon.
Environment Canada has also issued a very high UV Index of 8 for Saturday. A UV Index at this level means unprotected skin can burn quickly when exposed to direct sunlight. Health officials recommend applying broad-spectrum sunscreen, wearing sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat, and seeking shade whenever possible during peak afternoon hours.
Across southern Ontario, weather conditions will remain mostly stable. Toronto, Mississauga, Oshawa, and Pickering are all expected to enjoy mainly sunny skies for much of the day. Hamilton and Niagara Region may experience slightly cloudier conditions, while early morning fog patches are possible in parts of Niagara before clearing.
Saturday evening is expected to remain pleasant with clear skies and comfortable overnight temperatures falling to around 14 C. Light winds and low humidity overnight should provide ideal conditions for outdoor dining, evening walks, and community events taking place across Durham Region.
The warm pattern is forecast to continue into Sunday. Environment Canada predicts another sunny day with temperatures climbing to approximately 27 C before Humidex values are considered. Similar humidity levels are expected, continuing the region’s stretch of comfortable early summer weather.
Looking ahead, forecasters are monitoring a significant heat event expected to begin early next week across portions of southern Ontario. Temperatures are forecast to rise substantially beginning Monday, with daytime highs ranging between 31 C and 34 C by Tuesday.
Humidex values could climb into the low 40s during the peak of the heat event, creating potentially dangerous conditions for vulnerable individuals, including seniors, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.
Public health officials encourage residents to prepare for the hotter conditions by staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, checking on elderly neighbours and family members, and never leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles.
Residents planning outdoor recreation this weekend are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, particularly as the anticipated heat wave approaches next week. While Saturday’s weather will be warm and enjoyable for most outdoor activities, increasing humidity and very high UV levels make sun protection especially important.
With sunshine, warm temperatures, and summer conditions expected throughout Durham Region, the final weekend of June offers an ideal opportunity to enjoy local festivals, parks, waterfronts, and community events before significantly hotter weather arrives next week.
