Students and recent graduates across Durham Region and southern Ontario have a fresh batch of summer job opportunities to explore as the hiring season picks up steam. With the semester now wrapped up, several government agencies and organizations are actively recruiting for temporary and permanent positions spanning transit planning, water operations, parks and recreation, the courts system, and information technology.

The following roles are currently accepting applications from eligible candidates residing in Ontario.

Metrolinx is hiring a Bus Service Design student to help plan, implement, and monitor GO Transit bus services across southern Ontario. This is a four-month temporary contract paying $21.77 per hour, with one vacancy available. The position is open to students and recent graduates, and applications will remain open until September 2026. For Durham Region residents who rely on GO Transit, this role offers a chance to shape the very bus services that connect their communities.

The Huron Region is seeking two Water Operators to maintain water and wastewater facilities. This is a permanent position with an hourly wage ranging from $27.92 to $31.06. The application deadline is June 12, 2026, making it one of the more urgent opportunities on this list.

Bonnechere Provincial Park is looking for a seasonal Park Clerk to ensure visitors have an enjoyable experience while contributing to the conservation of Ontario natural heritage. The temporary role pays between $25.32 and $29.24 per hour, with applications closing on June 9, 2026.

The Ontario courts system has one of the largest hiring pushes this week, seeking Court and Client Representatives to assist in ensuring smooth court operations and serving as essential contacts between the legal system and local communities. Positions are available across a wide swath of the province, including Oshawa right here in Durham Region. Other locations span from Chatham and Windsor in the west to Cornwall and Peterborough in the east, with four vacancies currently open. The application deadline is June 30, 2026, giving candidates several weeks to prepare their materials.

An Information Technology Systems Officer position is also available in Thunder Bay, focused on maintaining and supporting I&IT telecommunication and radio systems. This role offers a weekly salary between $1,512.75 and $1,933.38, with applications due by June 16, 2026. While geographically distant from Durham, the position is worth noting for students interested in government technology careers.

For Durham Region students specifically, the Court and Client Representative role in Oshawa stands out as the most locally relevant opportunity, offering direct involvement in the justice system without the need to relocate. The Bus Service Design position at Metrolinx also holds appeal, given the significant GO Transit infrastructure connecting Durham to the Greater Toronto Area.

Students interested in any of these positions are encouraged to apply well before the closing dates, as government hiring processes can be competitive. Having an updated resume, cover letter, and references ready will streamline the application process across multiple roles.

The summer job season is a critical time for building experience, earning income, and establishing professional networks that can lead to long-term career opportunities. Whether you are interested in environmental work, public administration, technology, or transportation planning, this week listings offer a diverse range of entry points into the Ontario public sector.
