A Pickering homicide warrant has been issued for 25-year-old Kane Booth as Durham police investigate the death of Joshua Ibbitson, 47, whose body was found in a vehicle in April 2025.
Durham Regional Police announced on October 14 that Booth, of Pickering, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder. Investigators say they have confirmed he has left Canada. The release does not identify the country where he may be located.
Investigation began with a well-being check
Officers from West Division responded to a call to check on a person’s well-being near Fairport Road and Third Concession Road on April 30, 2025. They found a man dead inside a vehicle, secured the scene and notified the Coroner’s Office.
A post-mortem examination determined that the death was a homicide. Police subsequently identified the victim as Joshua Ibbitson.
The newly announced warrant is a significant development in that investigation. It is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. Police have not announced an arrest in the October 14 release.
Investigators ask for information
Booth is described by police as White, about five feet eleven inches tall, with a slim build, light brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who has information about the homicide or Booth’s whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Stewart in the DRPS Homicide Unit at 905-579-1520, extension 5416. Anonymous tips can be provided to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
This report is based on the October 14 police release, corroborated by Durham Radio News. The police release gives conflicting hometown information for Ibbitson, so his municipality of residence is not repeated here.
