The Orono Business Improvement Area is receiving $13,974 from Ontario to update its economic development strategy and create a marketing plan.
The Orono BIA funding comes through the Rural Ontario Development program, which supports projects led by municipalities, small businesses, not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous groups.
Project will refresh Orono’s economic plan
Durham Radio News reports that BIA co-chair Chad Harmer said the work will refresh the village’s strategy and build a marketing plan that presents Orono’s story to residents, visitors and prospective businesses.
The announcement identifies planning and promotion as the uses of the grant. It does not announce construction or a direct grant to an individual business.
Clarington welcomes provincial support
Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster said the municipality wants to support Orono businesses, attract visitors and create opportunities for growth. He described the village’s close-knit business community as central to its identity.
No completion date was provided. Consultation opportunities and final recommendations may be released as the work advances.
