An Ontario Tech Remembrance Day gathering will bring students, faculty and staff together at the north Oshawa campus on Wednesday, November 11, with an indoor Act of Remembrance and an online viewing option.

A November 5 announcement from the university’s Office of the Registrar invites the campus community to assemble beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Ontario Tech Student Union’s event details specify a 10:45 a.m. start for the ceremony, followed by a moment of silence at 11 a.m.

Campus ceremony in the recreation centre

The gathering will take place in Gyms 1 and 2 of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre in Oshawa. The Ontario Tech Student Union and the Durham College Student Association are hosting it together.

Organizers describe the ceremony as an opportunity to honour people who sacrificed their lives in service to the country. Veterans and members of the Canadian Armed Forces are welcome to attend in appropriate uniforms or attire.

The 10:30 a.m. arrival time and 10:45 a.m. ceremony time are separate parts of the programme; the moment of silence is scheduled for 11 a.m. Those planning to attend should allow time to reach the gym before the ceremony begins.

Livestream and downtown alternative

People unable to attend the campus gathering can use the Durham College and Ontario Tech Remembrance Day livestream linked from the student union’s event page.

The registrar’s announcement also identifies the City of Oshawa and Royal Canadian Legion gathering at Memorial Park, 110 Simcoe Street South, as a separate option for the university community. That downtown parade and ceremony are not the same event as the indoor campus service.

For the Ontario Tech Remembrance Day gathering, both the registrar’s invitation and the organizer’s written programme place the event in the morning.

Attendees should consult the linked organizer page for the livestream and any subsequent event updates.
