Families looking for an educational and interactive activity during the school holidays can explore history at the March Break at the Oshawa Museum, where visitors will have the opportunity to travel back in time and experience life in earlier generations.

The March Break at the Oshawa Museum program invites children and families to discover the history of Oshawa through engaging tours, historical demonstrations, and hands-on activities designed to bring the past to life. The event takes place at the Oshawa Museum located in Lakeview Park, one of the city’s well-known heritage sites.

During the program, visitors will be able to explore Henry House, a historic building where guides will introduce families to aspects of pioneer life in Oshawa. Guests can take part in activities that demonstrate how people lived, worked, and completed everyday tasks during earlier periods of Canadian history.

One of the highlights of the March Break at the Oshawa Museum experience is the opportunity for children to try on historical dress-up costumes, allowing them to imagine what life may have been like for families in the past. These interactive elements help younger visitors connect with history in a fun and memorable way.

Families will also have the chance to participate in hands-on chores and traditional tasks, giving them a glimpse into the routines that were once part of daily life for residents of the area.

Visitors can also explore exhibits inside the museum’s Welcome Gallery, where historical artifacts and displays provide further insight into the region’s heritage. Among the unique attractions is the so-called “Victorian Cellphone,” a historical device that demonstrates how communication methods have evolved over time.

In addition to the exhibits, families can enjoy historic toys and traditional games that were once popular with children in earlier generations. These activities give visitors a chance to see how entertainment and leisure looked long before modern technology became part of everyday life.

The March Break at the Oshawa Museum program will run during the March Break holiday period. The museum will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the last guided tour scheduled at 3:00 p.m.

The program will take place on March 13 and from March 16 through March 20, 2026, offering several opportunities for families to attend throughout the week.

Visitors are encouraged to begin their visit at Guy House, located within Lakeview Park at 1450 Simcoe Street South in Oshawa. From there, guests can access guided tours and other activities offered by the museum staff.

Admission to the event is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis by donation, making it accessible for families and visitors who want to explore local history during the school holiday.

Organizers say the program aims to provide both education and entertainment, encouraging children to learn about Oshawa’s past while enjoying interactive experiences with friends and family.
