The municipal engineering branches, regional transit dispatch desks, and heavy civil construction coordinators within the Durham Region are launching a sweeping mid-summer road rehabilitation campaign. Tracked under regional public works portfolios on Monday, July 6, 2026, transportation planning clerks finalized the comprehensive routing layout Traffic alerts for Oshawa, Clarington, Scugog, Uxbridge. Spanning from localized overnight paving programs to massive multi-year trunk sewer excavations, the coordinated municipal initiatives will force immediate lane drops and long-distance detours across both urban commuter lines and rural corridors.

Regional road directors are urging commercial fleet operators and daily commuters to pre-map alternative routes as heavy excavation equipment mobilizes at multiple project nodes.

The Multi-Jurisdictional Traffic Impact Directory

The active and upcoming road construction projects involve major infrastructure updates across four distinct regional sectors.

1. City of Oshawa (Farewell Street Rehabilitation)

  • The Restriction Matrix: Farewell Street, from Bloor Street East to Wentworth Street East, is down to a single lane of southbound traffic. All northbound lanes are completely blocked.

  • The System Timeline: The northbound lane closure is locked in from now until November 2026.

  • The Commuter Flow: Southbound traffic is permitted through the active workspace to maintain access to local industrial ports, while all northbound traffic is forced onto a posted detour network.

2. Municipality of Clarington (Bowmanville & Courtice Nodes)

  • Liberty & Baseline Overnight Paving (Bowmanville): To shield local businesses from daytime gridlock, night crews have begun high-speed asphalt stripping and repaving in the southbound lanes of Liberty Street South and the westbound lane of Baseline Road West. The work runs strictly overnight from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for up to four nights.

  • Trulls Road Trunk Sewer Installation (Courtice): Marking the longest project on the regional registry, heavy utility crews are moving onto Trulls Road, from 100 meters south of Bloor Street to Adelaide Avenue. Running from July 6, 2026, to December 31, 2028, this deep-trench initiative to install a massive trunk sanitary sewer will require permanent daytime lane restrictions and multiple full, rolling road closures over the next two and a half years.

3. Township of Scugog (Bridge Demolition & Asphalt Preservation)

  • Saintfield Road Bridge Deconstruction: Saintfield Road (Regional Road 6) is completely closed to all traffic from Old Simcoe Road to 150 meters east of the Layton River. Effective from July 6 to November 30, 2026, this total closure is required for the full structural demolition and complete replacement of the aging Saintfield Road Bridge.

  • Regional Road 57 Rehabilitation: Long-distance motorists face active lane drops along two major sections of Regional Road 57: from Scugog Point Road to St. Christopher’s Beach Road, and from View Lake Road straight to the Durham/Kawartha boundary line. These mobile construction zones remain in effect until August 31, 2026.

4. Township of Uxbridge (Siloam Bridge Finalization & Zephyr Road Rebuild)

  • Regional Road 8 (Siloam Bridge): Crews have taken over Regional Road 8 between Concession Road 2 and Concession Road 3 to complete final surface grading and top-coat paving following last year’s bridge replacement. These traffic restrictions will wrap up quickly on Monday, July 13, 2026.

  • Zephyr Road Full Reconstruction: Commuters are facing a massive structural road rebuild on Zephyr Road (Regional Road 13) between Concession Road 3 and Concession Road 4.

1.Execute Full Roadway Closure Block:July 13 to October 7, 2026.

Zephyr Road will be shut down completely between Concession 3 and Concession 4 to allow heavy machinery to safely clear the road base. Local residential access will be tightly maintained via posted detours.

2.Transition to Single-Lane Mobile Restrictions:October 7 to December 2026.

The full closure will be lifted, transitioning the corridor into rolling single-lane restrictions controlled by automated flaggers as underlying structural grading wraps up.

3.Pause Operations for Seasonal Freeze:Winter Hiatus (Dec 2026 to Apr 2027).

All heavy engineering operations will completely pause during the winter months, temporarily restoring standard two-way traffic over the stabilized base course.

4.Mobilize Final Surface Top-Coat Paving:May 2027 Activation.

Heavy asphalt crews will remobilize on-site to lay down the final structural top-coat paving, officially completing the multi-year road reconstruction project.

The Regional Municipality of Durham Works Department and local municipal engineering offices manage the centralized construction registries.

Durham Region logistics managers, transit passengers, and daily commuters looking to view interactive live detour mapping layers, download real-time heavy trucking bypass routes, or track emergency vehicle response routes can find the data portals online at durham.ca/works, clarington.net, scugog.ca, or track localized rural road delays via uxbridge.ca.
