Durham College enrolment has reached a record 10,321 full-time domestic students across its Oshawa and Whitby campuses this fall, the college announced on October 15.
The total includes 5,696 students in their first year. The college described the domestic intake as its largest to date.
First-year and returning learners
The figures refer to domestic students taking full-time programs. They should not be read as a count of all learners, including international or part-time students, because the announcement does not provide those totals.
President Elaine Popp attributed students’ choice to career-oriented programs, instructors with workplace experience and a supportive campus environment. The college said its programs connect students with employers and prepare graduates for jobs in Durham Region and beyond.
The release did not provide last year’s comparable domestic enrolment, so a year-over-year percentage increase cannot be calculated from the published numbers.
Daily Durham also reported the enrolment milestone on October 15. The announcement covers both local campuses rather than identifying a separate total for each location.
