Durham police have laid charges in an Ajax construction fraud investigation after a homeowner allegedly paid for warranty protection that was never put in place.
In a release dated October 15, police said the homeowner hired Aria Build Corporation in August 2024 to construct a residence in Ajax and dealt with the company’s owner.
According to investigators, the payment schedule included $56,560 to enrol the home with Tarion. Police allege that money was deposited in an account associated with Aria Build Corp.

A disagreement later developed over payments and completion, and the company stopped work, police said. When the homeowner asked Tarion about coverage for the unfinished residence, they learned it had not been enrolled.
Behzad Ayon, 30, identified by police as the company’s owner, faces one count each of fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Investigators believe other people may have been affected. Anyone with information or a similar experience can contact Durham police at 1-888-579-1520. Anonymous tips can be provided to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
