A DRT bus collision Clarington involving two separate crashes left four people injured on Highway 35-115 Thursday evening, according to Durham Regional Police.
Police say the incident began shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 when a Durham Region Transit bus travelling northbound near Concession Road 6 was forced to pull over due to a mechanical malfunction.
While stopped on the roadside, the bus was rear-ended by a Honda sedan. The driver of the Honda suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre.
Following the initial impact, the bus driver and two passengers exited the vehicle. A Dodge pickup truck also stopped to provide assistance.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., a Subaru SUV struck the stopped Dodge pickup and the DRT bus, hitting the Dodge driver and the two passengers who had exited the bus.
The two DRT passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment, while the Dodge driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The bus driver was not reported injured.
The roadway was closed for several hours as police investigated the DRT bus collision Clarington. The investigation remains ongoing.
