The weekend weather Southern Ontario spring forecast is bringing a mix of mild temperatures, rain, and even a chance of snow as the region transitions into the first days of the new season. While spring officially begins on Friday, March 20, 2026, the weather across southern Ontario will remain unpredictable, with fluctuating conditions expected throughout the weekend.

After a week that began with harsh winter conditions, including wind chills dropping to -22°C in parts of the Greater Toronto Area, temperatures are gradually improving. However, the weekend weather Southern Ontario spring forecast shows that winter is not completely finished just yet, especially in areas like Durham Region where colder air is expected to linger.

On Friday, residents across cities such as Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington, Oakville, and Hamilton can expect warmer temperatures reaching 10°C to 11°C. The day will likely start with rain or freezing rain in the morning, creating potentially slippery conditions for commuters. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to remain cautious, particularly during early hours when surfaces may still be icy.

In contrast, Durham Region is expected to experience cooler conditions, with daytime highs around 6°C and a possibility of light snowfall. This variation highlights how different parts of southern Ontario may experience very different weather patterns despite being relatively close geographically. The weekend weather Southern Ontario spring forecast continues to emphasize this regional contrast.

Saturday is expected to bring some relief, with a mix of sun and cloud across much of the Greater Toronto Area. Temperatures will hover around 7°C, making it one of the more pleasant days of the weekend. However, the evening may see a 30 per cent chance of showers, and temperatures are expected to drop to around 2°C overnight. While not extreme, these conditions still reflect the unpredictable nature of early spring weather.

By Sunday, cloud cover is expected to increase once again, with rain becoming more likely throughout the day. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 8°C, followed by a drop to around -1°C overnight. There is also a continued 30 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries in the evening, meaning some areas could once again see a brief return to wintry conditions.

Meteorologists often describe this time of year as a transitional period, where warm and cold air masses compete, resulting in rapidly changing weather. The weekend weather Southern Ontario spring forecast is a clear example of this pattern, combining elements of both winter and spring within just a few days.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on local forecasts and plan accordingly, especially if travelling or attending outdoor activities. Dressing in layers, preparing for wet conditions, and staying aware of changing road conditions can help reduce risks during this unpredictable period.

As southern Ontario welcomes the arrival of spring, this weekend serves as a reminder that the season does not always begin with sunshine and warmth. Instead, it often arrives gradually, with a mix of lingering winter weather and early signs of milder days ahead.
