Families across Durham Region are invited to enjoy a day of fun, education, and community engagement as Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) North Division hosts its 2026 Community Safety Day in Port Perry.

The free event will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Port Perry Fairgrounds, located at 15835 Old Simcoe Road. Organizers say the annual event is designed to strengthen community relationships while providing residents with an opportunity to learn more about public safety and policing in Durham Region.

Community Safety Day has become a popular event for families, bringing together police officers, residents, local organizations, and community partners for an afternoon of interactive activities and educational demonstrations. The event is open to visitors of all ages and aims to create a welcoming environment where residents can connect directly with officers serving their community.

One of the highlights of the event will be the opportunity for attendees to get up close with various police vehicles and specialized equipment used by Durham Regional Police. Residents will have the chance to view police cruisers, tactical vehicles, and other emergency response resources while learning about their roles in public safety operations.

Police officers from North Division will also be available throughout the day to answer questions, discuss community safety initiatives, and engage with residents in a relaxed setting. Organizers say these conversations help build trust and strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Families attending the event can look forward to a variety of interactive activities designed specifically for children and youth. Planned attractions include games, face painting, and hands-on experiences that introduce younger visitors to important safety concepts while creating a fun and memorable experience.

Safety demonstrations are also scheduled throughout the event. These presentations will provide insight into police operations and emergency response procedures while showcasing the training and skills used by officers in various situations. Demonstrations often prove to be one of the most popular features of Community Safety Day, attracting visitors interested in learning more about policing and public safety.

Food will be available for purchase on-site, allowing attendees to spend the day enjoying the festivities while supporting local vendors and community groups. Organizers expect a strong turnout from residents throughout Scugog Township and neighbouring communities across Durham Region.

In addition to the entertainment and educational opportunities, DRPS is encouraging attendees to support local food banks through its “Cram-A-Cruiser” initiative. Residents are invited to bring non-perishable food donations to the event, helping support individuals and families facing food insecurity within the community.

The food drive component reflects the broader community-focused mission of the event. By combining public safety education with charitable giving, organizers hope to make a positive impact beyond the fairgrounds while supporting local residents in need.

Community events such as Safety Day play an important role in fostering positive relationships between residents and emergency services. They provide an opportunity for the public to see another side of policing while encouraging open communication and community collaboration.

North Division officers continue to participate in numerous outreach initiatives throughout the year, focusing on crime prevention, education, youth engagement, and community partnerships. Events like Community Safety Day help reinforce these efforts by bringing residents and officers together in a family-friendly environment.

With free admission, interactive exhibits, safety demonstrations, games, and opportunities to support local food banks, organizers are encouraging residents to attend and enjoy the day.

Durham Regional Police hope the event will continue to strengthen community connections while promoting safety awareness across the region. Residents are invited to bring family and friends and take part in an afternoon dedicated to community spirit, education, and public safety.
