Durham Regional Police have issued an urgent appeal to the public for assistance in identifying a man linked to a series of disturbing incidents at The Shops at Pickering City Centre. Investigators from the Special Victims Unit are currently searching for a suspect who allegedly harassed both staff and customers on two separate occasions at a clothing store within the mall. This Pickering sexual assault suspect is accused of committing an indecent act and a sexual assault within a one-week span, prompting a heightened security concern for retail workers and shoppers in the busy commercial hub.
The first incident occurred on March 26, 2026, when the suspect entered a clothing retailer located inside the shopping centre. According to police reports, while the man was using a changeroom in the store, he intentionally exposed his genitals to employees and nearby customers. Mall security was alerted to the indecent act and successfully escorted the man off the property. While no physical injuries were reported during this initial encounter, the brazen nature of the behavior put the suspect on the radar of local law enforcement.
Despite being previously removed from the premises, the Pickering sexual assault suspect returned to the same clothing store on April 2. During this second visit, the situation escalated significantly when the man allegedly sexually assaulted a female employee. The suspect managed to flee the area before police officers could arrive on the scene. Although the victim did not suffer any physical injuries, the escalation from an indecent act to a physical assault has made the apprehension of this individual a high priority for the Special Victims Unit.
The suspect is described as a Brown male, standing approximately 5’5” to 5’8” tall, with a thin build and black facial hair. Detectives believe that because the incidents took place in a high-traffic public space, there may be witnesses who have not yet come forward. Investigators are specifically looking for anyone who might have captured the male on cellphone video, dashcam footage near the mall entrances, or who recognizes the description from other local interactions. Identifying the Pickering sexual assault suspect is considered a critical step in preventing further incidents in the region’s retail sector.
Detective Dunbar of the Special Victims Unit is leading the investigation and is urging anyone with information to contact the Durham Regional Police Service immediately. Community safety relies on the cooperation of residents, and even seemingly minor details could prove vital in tracking the suspect’s movements. For those who wish to provide information but remain anonymous, tips can be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers. Informants may be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest and the successful conclusion of the case. As the investigation continues, police are working with mall management to ensure that safety protocols are strictly followed to protect the public and employees alike.
