A terrifying wave of violence erupted in central Oshawa on Saturday afternoon, leaving two men injured and a residential neighborhood under heavy police surveillance. At approximately 4:00 p.m. on April 18, 2026, Durham Regional Police responded to multiple reports of gunfire on Court Street, an area situated just south of the city’s downtown core. Upon arrival, emergency responders located two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was immediately transported to Lakeridge Health Oshawa, while the second was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre for specialized treatment. Both men have since been stabilized, but the Oshawa Court Street shooting has left residents deeply concerned about local safety.

The police response to the Oshawa Court Street shooting was massive, with more than a dozen cruisers cordoning off the area. Tactical officers and members of the K9 Unit spent several hours canvassing the neighborhood, focusing their search on Emma Street and a dense wooded area to the east of Court Street. Investigators were seen knocking on doors and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together the timeline of the attack. According to preliminary reports from people at the scene, the incident appeared to be a drive-by shooting, though police have yet to officially confirm the suspect’s vehicle description or the motive behind the gunfire.

Physical evidence at the scene painted a grim picture of the intensity of the Oshawa Court Street shooting. Forensics teams identified and marked more than a dozen shell casings scattered across the pavement. At least one parked vehicle in the vicinity was found riddled with bullet holes, further emphasizing the high risk posed to the public during the exchange. While the heavy police presence remained through the evening, no arrests were immediately made. The suspect or suspects remain at large, and the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is treating the case as an ongoing investigation into targeted violence.

The Oshawa Court Street shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have prompted calls for increased police patrols in the city’s southern downtown border. Residents expressed shock at the brazen nature of the broad-daylight attack, noting that the area is typically active with families and pedestrians on Saturday afternoons. The DRPS has not yet released descriptions of any persons of interest but is actively seeking help from the community to track down those responsible for the brazen assault.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the Oshawa Court Street shooting to come forward. Specifically, investigators are looking for any residential surveillance footage or dashcam video recorded in the area of Court Street and Emma Street between 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers, where informants may be eligible for a cash reward. As the two victims continue their recovery in the hospital, the priority for local law enforcement remains the identification and apprehension of the shooter to prevent further escalations of violence in the region.
