Drivers and pedestrians across Durham Region are being urged to use caution as freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow are expected throughout Tuesday, January 6.
According to Environment Canada, several hours of freezing rain are possible across the region, with ice accretion ranging from 1 to 5 millimetres. Roads, sidewalks, and walkways may become icy and slippery, with hazardous conditions that may be difficult to detect.
Environment Canada also warned that localized utility outages are possible due to ice buildup. Freezing rain may at times be mixed with snow or ice pellets.
As a low-pressure system moves through the area, conditions are expected to transition to snowfall later in the day.
Motorists are advised to adjust driving habits to weather conditions, while pedestrians are encouraged to take extra care when travelling outdoors.
