Scugog CPR training will be offered free to township residents at two four-hour sessions in November.
The Township of Scugog approved the CPR-C courses, which will be delivered by St. John Ambulance. Registration is open to residents aged 18 and older.
Sessions planned in Port Perry and Blackstock
The first session is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, 1655 Reach Street in Port Perry.
A second session will run Saturday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blackstock Recreation Complex, 3340 Church Street in Blackstock.
Each course has space for no more than 18 participants. Places are being assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, so residents should check the township’s registration system for current availability.
Course covers adults, children and infants
According to the township information reported by Durham Post, participants will learn how to manage an emergency scene, recognize signs of a heart attack and respond when someone stops breathing.
CPR-C training includes resuscitation techniques for adults, children and infants. It also covers two-rescuer CPR, which prepares participants to coordinate care when another trained responder is present.
The course is intended to help residents recall and apply life-saving steps during a stressful emergency. It does not replace a call to emergency services when urgent medical help is required.
Registration is available online
Residents can reach the registration system through Scugog’s Adults and Older Adults recreation page. The township advises users to log in and select the program category again if a registration button disappears.
The free Scugog CPR training initiative gives up to 36 adult residents an opportunity to build emergency-response skills across the two sessions.
