An Oshawa banner project is inviting artists to propose designs for three collaborative banners exploring the restorative and healing effects of art.
The Robert McLaughlin Gallery and LivingRoom Community Art Studio are organizing the project. INsauga reported on October 9 that the submission deadline had been extended to October 13.
Three banners will support outreach
The finished banners are expected to be used during outreach events involving LivingRoom’s Mobile Art Hive. They will also be displayed on an exterior wall of the Robert McLaughlin Gallery during the project cycle.
The project theme is “Art Wellness, Creativity as Care.” Organizers say they are open to different artistic interpretations of that idea.
The gallery’s public opportunities page identifies the initiative as the LivingRoom Community Arts Studio and Robert McLaughlin Gallery Collective Banner Project. Its information package contains the project’s detailed design and eligibility requirements.
Proposal package has several requirements
Applicants are asked to submit one PDF containing an artist biography, résumé, a statement of no more than 500 words about art and well-being, two or three samples of previous work, and a proposed banner design and combined logo.
Artists should review the official information package before applying because size requirements, content restrictions and submission details can affect eligibility. The gallery’s page still displayed the earlier October 9 deadline at scan time, while the October 9 news report said it had been extended to October 13. Applicants should confirm the current deadline directly with the organizers.
Separate Indigenous writer call already represented
The same news report also discussed Oshawa’s separate call for Indigenous writers for an Ed Broadbent Waterfront Park public-art project. All About Durham published that opportunity on October 7, so it is not repeated here.
The new Oshawa banner project is limited to the collaborative gallery and Mobile Art Hive banners.
