Bloor Street Realignment Reduces Oshawa Golf Course

The Oshawa Bloor Street realignment has reduced Harmony Creek Golf Centre from 18 holes to 12 as the Region of Durham builds a new four-lane route east of Highway 401.

Work began at the end of August on land where the Region holds a right of way. The project is designed to straighten Bloor Street East from the highway entrance toward Grandview Street and support future provincial highway and GO rail construction.

First phase scheduled through spring 2027

The first phase is creating a new road from the point where Bloor currently bends south to the western edge of a proposed connector. DurhamRegion.com reports that this phase is expected to finish in spring 2027.

No road closure is planned during the first phase. The second phase would complete the eastern realignment and build the connector between the new Bloor alignment and a retained cul-de-sac on part of the existing road.

Design work for phase two is continuing. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and finish in 2029. That phase will require Bloor Street to close between the railway tracks and Grandview Street for a period that has not yet been specified.

Several transportation projects overlap

Metrolinx is installing a new water main near Grandview Station as part of the Bowmanville GO extension. The rail work is not expected to close roads, though drivers may notice more construction vehicles.

The province also plans to reconstruct the Highway 401 underpass at Bloor Street, a project expected to close the highway entrance when it begins in 2028. Work is already underway on the nearby Wilson Road overpass.

The Region budgeted $10.6 million for the realignment in 2026 and forecasts another $25 million in spending between 2027 and 2035. Provincial funding is covering part of the cost because the work supports Highway 401 widening and GO expansion.

Harmony Creek course reduced

Building the new alignment required construction on a section of Harmony Creek Golf Centre. The course has reduced its playable layout from 18 holes to 12. The business did not comment on the impact, although a response to an online review indicated that rates had been reduced.

Separate lane restrictions at Bloor Street East and Wilson Road South are related to another regional project. Drivers should check current notices because schedules can change.
