Scugog Civic Holiday hours will affect municipal buildings, recreation facilities, library services and some regional programs on Monday, August 3. Residents planning to visit a public facility or use transit should review the temporary schedules before leaving home.
The Township of Scugog says its municipal office, Fire Administration Office and Scugog Arena will be closed for the Civic Holiday. Those facilities are scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, August 4.
Municipal Office, Fire Administration and Arena Closed
The municipal office at 181 Perry Street in Port Perry will not provide in-person service on August 3. The Township’s Fire Administration Office will also be closed, although emergency fire and rescue services will continue to operate.
Scugog Arena will remain closed for the holiday. The Township has not announced broader holiday-hour changes for its other recreation facilities, but residents should confirm individual schedules before visiting.
Scugog Public Library Closed Monday
Scugog Public Library will be closed on August 3. Regular hours are scheduled to resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4.
Digital library services may remain available during the building closure. Cardholders can continue using online collections and other remote resources, although in-person borrowing, staff assistance and room access will not be available until the library reopens.
Scugog Civic Holiday Hours at Birdseye Pool
Birdseye Pool at 254 Water Street in Port Perry will remain open under a special Civic Holiday schedule.
Lane swimming is scheduled from 8 to 8:50 a.m. Registered swim lessons will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. A social swim is listed from 12:10 to 1 p.m.
Public swimming sessions are scheduled from 12:10 to 2 p.m., 2:30 to 3:50 p.m. and 6:10 to 7:30 p.m.
The Township notes that schedules are subject to change. Visitors should review admission standards, supervision ratios and pool rules before arriving. Birdseye Pool is also listed as a cash-only facility, and swim lessons require advance registration.
Waste Collection Not Listed as Changed
Neither the Township’s closure notice nor Durham Region’s Civic Holiday service notice announces a change to Scugog’s curbside waste collection.
Residents should nevertheless verify their pickup date by entering their address in Durham Region’s online collection calendar or using the Durham Region Waste mobile app. Collection schedules vary by address and material type, so checking the official calendar is more reliable than assuming a regular pickup.
Durham Region Transit on Weekend Service
Durham Region Transit will operate weekend service on August 3. The On Demand Call Centre will be available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., while the DRT Customer Service Call Centre and customer-service desk in Ajax will be closed.
Passengers should check their route and schedule before travelling because weekend service can differ from weekday operations.
Other Regional Services Affected
Several regional programs will also be unavailable for the holiday. Durham Region says its health programs and clinics will be closed, and water-sample drop-off and pickup service at the Port Perry Health Department office will not be available on August 3. Regular water-sample service is expected to resume Tuesday morning.
The Adult Day Program at the Port Perry site is normally closed on Mondays, including the Civic Holiday.
Residents should remember that emergency services remain available despite administrative-office closures. Online municipal requests can still be submitted, but responses may not arrive until offices reopen.
The main Scugog Civic Holiday hours changes are the closure of the municipal office, Fire Administration Office, arena and library, along with the special schedule at Birdseye Pool and weekend service on Durham Region Transit. Checking official websites before travelling can help residents avoid unexpected closures or schedule changes.
