An early morning fire at a waste management facility in Bowmanville has left several company vehicles destroyed as Durham Regional Police and Clarington Fire continue investigating the cause of the blaze. The Clarington Waste Plant Fire Destroys Multiple Company Vehicles incident remains under investigation, with officials saying it is too early to determine whether the fire is suspicious.
Emergency crews responded at approximately 2:30 a.m. Friday to GFL Environmental near Lake Road and Britton Court after multiple vehicles were reported engulfed in flames.
The Clarington Waste Plant Fire Destroys Multiple Company Vehicles incident drew a significant response from firefighters and police. Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke and flames from nearby Highway 401 as crews worked to contain the fire.
Clarington Fire crews quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading further throughout the waste management facility. Despite their efforts, several company vehicles sustained severe fire damage.
Durham Regional Police confirmed investigators are working alongside fire officials to determine how the fire started.
Police say it is too early to determine whether the fire was suspicious and no cause has been confirmed at this stage of the investigation.
