A 68-year-old man has died after being struck by an SUV in a parking lot in Pickering on Saturday night, according to Durham Regional Police.
Emergency crews responded to the incident at approximately 10:15 p.m. on July 11 after receiving reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at 1105 Kingston Road.
Police say a black Ford SUV was travelling through the parking lot when it struck the man, trapping him underneath the vehicle.
Officers Lifted SUV to Rescue Victim
When officers arrived at the scene, they worked quickly to free the victim by lifting the SUV before immediately beginning life-saving measures.
Despite the efforts of police officers and emergency responders, the 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Driver Cooperating with Investigation
Investigators say the driver of the Ford SUV remained at the scene following the collision and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
At this time, police have not announced whether any charges have been laid.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation as officers work to determine exactly what happened.
Collision Investigation Underway
Members of the Durham Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to examine evidence and document the circumstances of the incident.
Investigators will review witness statements, physical evidence, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage as part of the investigation.
Police have not released additional details regarding the events leading up to the collision.
