Simcoe Hall is asking Oshawa residents to donate reusable bags as it prepares food hampers for local people and families this holiday season.
The charity’s official website displays the appeal in its current social-media feed. Durham Radio News reported the request November 5, explaining that the bags will be used to pack and distribute holiday food hampers.
Where to bring donations
Donations can be taken to Simcoe Hall Settlement House at 387 Simcoe Street South in Oshawa. The organization’s holiday programme page says donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
People dropping off food or other donations between noon and 1 p.m. should see the front house, according to the official instructions.
Simcoe Hall says it remains open during nearby road construction. Its homepage advises visitors that Simcoe Street is closed south of Olive Avenue and describes access via Olive Avenue, Albert Street and Fisher Street. Visitors should check the current directions before travelling.
Hamper registration is already full
The request for reusable bags is a donation appeal, not an invitation to register for a hamper. The official Holiday Food Hamper Program page currently says registration is closed because capacity has been reached.
Simcoe Hall says additional places may become available if donations or cancellations permit, and asks people to watch its programme page for updates. That possibility is not a promise that registration will reopen.
People who are already registered should use their confirmation email for their pickup date and time and bring identification for everyone included in the registration, the charity says.
Simcoe Hall also welcomes food donations for the seasonal programme. Its current reusable-bag appeal gives residents another practical way to help with packing hampers.
