Isaiah Adams gun charges have been filed following a Durham Regional Police investigation that resulted in four arrests and the alleged seizure of suspected fentanyl and firearms in Ajax and Pickering.
Adams, an offensive lineman with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, is a Pickering resident and Ajax native.
He faces four firearm-related allegations. None of the charges against Adams or the other accused individuals has been proven in court.
Isaiah Adams Gun Charges Connected to Pickering Search
Durham Regional Police said members of the Guns and Gangs Unit concluded an investigation on Friday, July 17, involving a man suspected of possessing a firearm and participating in drug trafficking.
Investigators located the man and a woman inside a vehicle in Ajax and arrested them without incident.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered more than three kilograms of suspected fentanyl.
Police later executed a search warrant at a residence in Pickering with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Unit.
A second woman was arrested at the residence.
Investigators reported finding a loaded firearm equipped with a prohibited overcapacity magazine and a replica Uzi. Police said the loaded firearm had been reported stolen from Georgia in the United States.
A fourth outstanding suspect surrendered to police on Sunday, July 19.
Four People Face Firearm or Drug Charges
Police identified the four accused as:
- Isaiah Derrick Adams of Pickering, charged with possession of a firearm obtained by crime, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a prohibited device.
- Allyson Mae Adams of Pickering, charged with the same four firearm offences.
- Jaelin Jared Gamble of Pickering, charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
- Natasha Marie Rotta of Ajax, charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
Durham police said all four accused were held for bail hearings.
Police have not alleged that Isaiah Adams was charged with possessing or trafficking the suspected fentanyl.
Lawyer Says Adams Did Not Know About Firearm
Adams’ lawyer, Adam Weisberg, said his client had no knowledge of the firearm and maintains that the NFL player is innocent.
The Arizona Cardinals said the organization was aware of the situation but would not provide further comments while the legal process continued.
Sports reports indicated Adams had returned to Arizona and was expected to participate in the team’s training camp.
Adams was selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing college football at the University of Illinois. He began his collegiate career at Wilfrid Laurier University before playing in the United States.
