A man is in hospital being treated for smoke inhalation after an early morning house fire in Oshawa.
Fire crews were called to the home on Bloor Street near Simcoe Street around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Oshawa Deputy Fire Chief Todd Wood says when firefighters arrived a number of people had already escaped the home, but told crews two people were inside.
They found one man and pulled him from the home. He was assessed by Durham paramedics on scene before he was taken to hospital.
Durham police say there were three people taken to hospital in stable condition.
Crews continued to search the home, but found no one else before the flames forced them to move to a defensive position and start battling the blaze from outside.
A Durham Region Transit bus was brought in to provide a warm bus to those displaced.
The blaze is under control, but the cause of the fire is not yet known.
