The sessions aim to ensure participants are well-prepared by covering essential topics related to the Durham municipal election 2026, including the roles and responsibilities of elected officials, eligibility requirements, the nomination process, campaign finance rules, compliance audits, and voting procedures. Additional information such as voter lists, proxy voting, recounts, and the role of scrutineers will also be discussed.

Residents interested in attending can register through the City of Oshawa’s official election website. These sessions are particularly valuable for first-time candidates or individuals seeking a deeper understanding of how municipal elections operate.

Meanwhile, the City of Pickering is also encouraging residents to consider running in the Durham municipal election 2026. City officials highlighted the critical role that municipal leaders play in guiding decisions that directly impact daily life, including infrastructure development, community programs, public safety, and long-term planning.

Eligible electors in Pickering can begin filing their nominations starting May 1. The nomination period will remain open until August 21 at 2 p.m. Candidates must submit their nomination papers in person at the Office of the City Clerk, located at the Pickering Civic Complex.

Nomination submissions will be accepted during regular business hours throughout the nomination period. On the final day, filings will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Candidates interested in running for the position of Regional Chair must submit their nominations through the Regional Clerk’s Office in Whitby.

The Durham municipal election 2026 also includes opportunities for individuals to run as school board trustees, allowing residents to play a direct role in shaping the future of education within the region.

Officials across Durham Region continue to stress that municipal elections are a vital part of local democracy. They provide residents with the chance to influence key decisions affecting their communities and ensure that local leadership reflects the needs and priorities of the population.

For detailed information on nomination requirements, election procedures, and important deadlines, residents are encouraged to visit their respective municipal election websites or contact their local city clerk offices.
