Kostas Meat Market Pickering is already drawing large crowds following the opening of its second location on Liverpool Road, bringing authentic Greek food to Durham Region.
Owner John Margaronis, who took over the family business from his father two decades ago, said the response from the Pickering community exceeded expectations. After operating for 33 years in Scarborough, Margaronis decided it was time to expand.
“I didn’t expect it to be this busy right away,” he said after opening weekend. “We thought we would ease into it, but the response was immediate.”
To celebrate the opening, customers lined up for free souvlaki and gyros fresh off the grill. Margaronis estimated that nearly 2,000 people visited the store during opening weekend.
Behind the counter, Kostas Meat Market Pickering offers a wide selection of Greek favourites, including souvlaki, gyros, fresh meats, salads, hot meals, olives, feta cheese, dips, and spreads. The homemade tzatziki remains one of the shop’s most popular items.
Margaronis said chicken souvlaki has quickly become a customer favourite and thanked the community for its strong support.
“A lot of customers were asking for it,” he said. “We’re grateful for the warm welcome Pickering has given us.”
