Southern Ontario, including parts of Durham Region, is bracing for a stormy weather system set to arrive on February 18, 2026 Weather Forecast. Environment Canada has issued weather warnings for areas such as the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), which includes cities like Oshawa, Pickering, and Toronto. The forecast includes freezing rain, ice pellets, and significant snowfall that could create hazardous conditions for commuters and residents.

On Wednesday morning, the low-pressure system is expected to bring snow or freezing rain, with ice accumulations up to 5 cm in areas like Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton. For cities in Durham Region, including Oshawa and Pickering, the ice accumulation could be even more substantial, with forecasts predicting 10 cm to 15 cm of ice accumulation. These conditions could make roadways treacherous and create travel delays throughout the region.

Rainfall and Wind Conditions:

Along with freezing rain, the Niagara Falls area is expected to receive up to 20 mm of rain, adding to the challenging weather conditions. In addition, winds will gust up to 50 km/h, which will make the already cold temperatures feel much colder, especially in areas like Mississauga, where the high is expected to reach only -1°C. Wind gusts will intensify the cold, further affecting the feeling of the temperature, making it feel much colder on exposed skin.

Travel Disruptions and Safety Concerns:

The weather conditions could result in delays and cancellations at Toronto Pearson Airport, as the freezing rain and snow affect flight schedules. GO Transit and other transit services are also advising passengers to expect delays, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.

Evening Weather and Snowfall:

As the day progresses, snow or freezing rain will continue in the region, mixed with ice pellets. By Wednesday evening, there will be a 60% chance of freezing drizzle in the GTA, including Durham cities like Oshawa and Pickering. The temperature will drop to a low of -2°C in Mississauga, but the wind chill factor will make it feel like -7°C, so residents are urged to dress warmly and exercise caution when outdoors.

Thursday’s Outlook:

The weather on Thursday, February 19, is expected to remain cloudy, with a high of 2°C. There is a 40% chance of drizzle later in the evening, and the temperature will drop again to -2°C. With the ongoing winter storm, Durham Region residents are advised to keep an eye on weather updates and prepare for possible slippery conditions on roads, sidewalks, and train stations.

Public Safety Advisory:

Local authorities, including Durham Region Police Services and municipal councils, are reminding residents to be cautious while traveling and to prepare for challenging conditions. Ice build-up on sidewalks and roads will create dangerous driving and walking situations, and commuters are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
