Durham municipal voting is opening in stages across the region ahead of election day on Monday, October 26.
Internet voting began October 13 in Oshawa and Uxbridge. Oshawa voters can cast a ballot online until 8 p.m. on election day, while voter-assistance centres offer City devices and help for people who need it.
Oshawa residents need the confidential information in their Voter Information Letter to register. Registration requires an email address or mobile phone number so a unique voting PIN can be issued. Registration closes at 6 p.m. on October 26, two hours before voting ends.
Opening dates differ across Durham
Scugog is scheduled to open online or telephone voting on October 14. Brock follows on October 17, Pickering and Ajax on October 19, and Clarington on October 20. Voting in those municipalities continues to 8 p.m. on October 26.
Whitby uses a different system. The town is offering in-person voting and special mail-in ballots, but not online or telephone voting. Advance in-person voting is scheduled from October 22 to 25. On election day, Whitby polling locations are to operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Voters should consult their municipality’s official election page for local identification rules, assistance-centre schedules and assigned voting locations. Anyone who has not received a Voter Information Letter should contact the municipal clerk or use the official voter-information process for their community.
Oshawa introduces online ballots
Online voting is new in Oshawa this year. The City says voters can register and cast a ballot from a computer, tablet or smartphone anywhere in Canada. Residents can also attend an advance voting assistance centre to use a City-provided device.
On October 26, Oshawa will operate assistance centres in each ward. Those locations can provide online-voting help and will also offer paper ballots. Voters attending in person should bring their information letter and acceptable identification.
The 2026 election will select mayors, councillors and school-board trustees across Durham Region. Local ballot options and voting methods are not identical, making the official municipal election pages the final source for each voter.
This Durham municipal voting update is a substantial follow-up to earlier voter-list reminders because ballots are now being accepted and the region-wide opening schedule is confirmed.
