The Durham Climate Forum will bring residents, community organizations and climate specialists to Whitby on Saturday, November 14, for a free event focused on preparing homes and neighbourhoods for a changing climate.
Durham Region announced the details October 26. The family-friendly forum runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Regional Headquarters, 605 Rossland Road East.
This year’s theme centres on local knowledge, practical tools and community action. The Region says participants will be able to explore climate risks and learn ways to strengthen preparedness through exhibits, speakers and hands-on activities.
More than 25 local organizations will take part. Attendees can speak with community leaders and industry specialists, explore interactive exhibits and test drive electric vehicles.
The announced speaker lineup includes Ewa Jackson, managing director of ICLEI Canada; Chief Kelly LaRocca of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation; and Tara Zupancic, a senior climate change and health specialist with Durham Region Health Department.
Also listed are Brent Kopperson, executive director and founder of Windfall Ecology Centre, and Jennifer Taves, senior manager of sustainable communities at Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
The Durham Climate Forum is hosted by the Region and is open to residents of all ages. Admission is free, and the official announcement includes a registration link.
The event is intended to connect practical household preparation with community-wide resilience. The announcement describes opportunities to learn and exchange information rather than a new grant or mandatory programme for homeowners.
Residents interested in attending should use the Region’s announcement below for the registration link and any subsequent event updates.
