Bowmanville Hospital Fundraiser Passes $20,000

Community support for the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment continues to grow, with the inaugural Steps for Care campaign now raising more than $20,000.

The Bowmanville fundraiser is bringing together residents, local teams, businesses and supporters who want to contribute to the future of health care in Clarington. The Steps for Care charity walk is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the Waterfront Trail in Courtice.

Money raised through the event will support the planned redevelopment of Bowmanville Hospital. The major redevelopment project is expected to more than double the size of the existing hospital and expand access to health-care services for residents across Clarington.

As the municipality continues to grow, organizers say additional hospital space, upgraded facilities and improved services will become increasingly important for patients and families throughout the community.

TD Matching Donations Beginning Sept. 1

The Bowmanville fundraiser is expected to receive another significant boost beginning Sept. 1 through a limited-time donation matching initiative from TD.

For 12 days, TD will match eligible Steps for Care donations dollar-for-dollar, up to a total matching contribution of $12,500.

The matching campaign gives residents an opportunity to increase the impact of their donations while matching funds remain available.

For example, an eligible $50 contribution could potentially result in $100 being directed toward the campaign during the matching period.

However, the matching program is available only during the announced 12-day period and is subject to the $12,500 maximum. Donations made outside the matching window should not be assumed to qualify for matching before the Sept. 27 event.

Wilmot Creek Team Raises More Than $6,000

Local teams and individual participants are already making significant contributions to the fundraising total.

The Wilmot Creek Legacy Builders, led by Pauline Alton, have raised more than $6,000 toward Steps for Care, making the team one of the campaign’s notable early contributors.

The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation says the response demonstrates strong community support for the hospital and its future redevelopment.

The foundation is also marking 50 years of local fundraising and community involvement supporting health-care services in Bowmanville and surrounding areas.

Foundation CEO Maria Petri said participation in Steps for Care reflects the community’s continuing commitment to strengthening health care in Clarington.

Residents still have time to become involved before the Sept. 27 walk. Supporters can register to participate, create or join a fundraising team, donate directly to the campaign or contribute to an existing participant.

With more than $20,000 already raised and the TD matching campaign approaching, organizers hope the inaugural Steps for Care event will generate even greater support for the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment.
