Residents are being reminded of important Ajax winter rules as the town prepares for ongoing snow and winter weather conditions.
The Town of Ajax says its bylaw services and operations teams are fully equipped to respond before, during, and after snowfall, ensuring roads, sidewalks, trails, parking lots, and school crossings remain safe and accessible.
Ajax’s winter operations officially begin each year on November 15 and include proactive patrols to enforce parking restrictions during snow events. Vehicles parked on the street during active winter storms may be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense.
Town officials remind residents that roadways are cleared from curb to curb on a priority basis and that vehicles must not jut into the roadway, as this can interfere with snowplow operations and lead to fines.
Under Ajax winter rules, homeowners are required to clear ice and snow from sidewalks surrounding their property within 24 hours of a snowfall. Residents are also responsible for clearing snow windrows at the end of their driveways, unless enrolled in the town’s snow removal program for qualified residents.
The municipality also provides a live snowplow map, allowing residents to track plow activity on town-owned roads in real time. Snow removal operations are typically activated 24 hours after snowfall ends when more than five centimetres of snow has accumulated.
Ajax officials note the town clears approximately 400 kilometres of roads, 150 kilometres of sidewalks and trails, 27 parking lots, and 53 school crossings. Snow clearing can take up to 16 hours to complete, depending on conditions.
