The Ajax Library Champion vote is giving children a chance to practise casting a ballot by selecting a character to represent Ajax Public Library.
The library’s official event listing says early voting takes place at all branches from October 5 through October 21. A drop-in voting event is scheduled for the Main Branch children’s area on Wednesday, October 21, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Four characters seek young voters’ support
The candidates are Barkley, Bizzy, Sheldon and Dewey. Children can learn about the characters through the library’s campaign information and social-media posts before visiting a branch to vote.
The program is intended for children in Grades 4 through 8, but the library says all ages are welcome. Participants at the Main Branch voting event can cast their ballot and receive an “I Voted” sticker.
A library activity, not a municipal ballot
This is a children’s library activity rather than voting for municipal councillors or school trustees. DurhamRegion.com highlighted the campaign on October 14 as a way to introduce young people to voting.
Families can consult the library’s official event listing for the October 21 schedule. The Ajax Library Champion vote continues at library branches until that date.
