A disturbing report of a Newcastle voyeurism investigation has prompted Durham Regional Police to launch a search for a senior citizen accused of targeting a child at a local community hub. On the evening of April 9, 2026, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., an incident occurred in the changeroom facilities of the Diane Hamre Recreation Centre. Police report that a man in his late 60s repeatedly violated the privacy of a 12-year-old boy who was using the shower stalls. The suspect allegedly pulled back the privacy curtain while the youth was occupied, creating a terrifying situation for the young victim.

According to the details provided by the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch, the 12-year-old boy attempted to close the curtain after the initial intrusion. However, the suspect allegedly persisted, repeatedly opening the shower curtain while the boy was inside. When the victim finally exited the shower area to leave the changeroom, the man followed him and attempted to initiate a conversation. Fortunately, the youth was able to escape the suspect’s presence and immediately alerted a waiting parent. While the boy did not sustain physical injuries, the nature of the encounter has led to a serious Newcastle voyeurism investigation.

The suspect in this case is described by authorities as a white male, approximately 65 to 70 years old, with no facial hair. Durham Regional Police have expressed significant concern that there may be other victims who have experienced similar encounters at the recreation centre but have not yet come forward. The Diane Hamre Recreation Centre is a popular spot for families in Clarington, and news of the Newcastle voyeurism investigation has sparked a wave of concern regarding safety protocols in communal changerooms and the supervision of vulnerable users in private spaces.

Detective Constable Newman is currently leading the probe and is asking for the public’s help to identify the man. Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who was at the recreation centre on the night of April 9 or who may have witnessed a man matching the description acting suspiciously. Police are also requesting that residents check any available cell phone or dashcam footage from the parking lot area during that specific one-hour window. This Newcastle voyeurism investigation relies heavily on community cooperation to ensure the suspect is apprehended before another child is targeted.

Anyone with information that could assist in the Newcastle voyeurism investigation is encouraged to contact the Durham Regional Police Service. For those who prefer to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers. Information leading to an arrest in this case may be eligible for a cash reward. As the investigation continues, local authorities are reminding parents and guardians to stay vigilant and encourage children to report any uncomfortable or suspicious interactions in public facilities immediately.
