The TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event is set to return to downtown Oshawa, bringing a powerful lineup of local speakers and innovative ideas to the stage. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, the highly anticipated event will take place at the Biltmore Theatre, offering a platform for community voices to reach a global audience.
The TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event will feature 16 speakers from across the region, each sharing unique perspectives on topics ranging from leadership and resilience to science, health, and personal growth. This year’s theme, “The Future Decoded,” aims to explore how ideas can shape the future while reflecting the diverse experiences of the Oshawa community.
Organized as a volunteer-driven initiative, the TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event continues to grow in popularity. Attendance has nearly doubled this year, with approximately 300 people expected to attend in person. Despite its growth, the event remains committed to its core mission of providing a TED-style experience at the community level.
Lead organizer and official TEDx licensee Faris Mahoon Siddiqui emphasized the importance of local representation. He explained that what makes the TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event truly special is its focus on speakers from within the community. These individuals bring forward ideas shaped by their lived experiences, research, and insights, making the event both relatable and impactful.
The event will open with a keynote address by Durham College President Dr. Elaine Popp, highlighting the connection between education, leadership, and innovation in the region. Her participation further strengthens the credibility and significance of the TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event.
Speakers at the event have undergone an extensive preparation process to ensure high-quality presentations. Since January, participants have received weekly one-on-one coaching, along with early access to official TED public speaking resources. This preparation ensures that each talk delivered at the TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event meets global TED standards.
The topics covered during the event will span a wide range of meaningful issues. From discussions on ADHD and autism to insights into nuclear energy, hormones, and women’s health, the TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event aims to spark thoughtful conversations and inspire new ways of thinking.
One of the defining features of the event is its commitment to accessibility and fairness. Speakers are not required to pay for participation or training, ensuring that ideas are selected based on their merit and impact rather than financial ability. This approach reinforces the integrity of the TEDx Oshawa Future Decoded Event.
Following the event, all talks will be published on the official TEDx YouTube channel, which reaches millions of viewers worldwide. This provides local speakers with a rare opportunity to contribute to global discussions while showcasing Oshawa as a centre for innovation and creativity.
