The iconic multi-colored stripes of a Canadian institution are officially making a major comeback in the Durham Region, but with a significant retail twist. On the morning of April 9, 2026, the Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) announced the launch of its first full summer collection featuring the trademarks of the former Hudson’s Bay Company. This 32-piece assortment of Hudson’s Bay products, scheduled to arrive in stores on May 1, marks the most substantial reintroduction of the brand since CTC acquired the intellectual property rights last year following the total closure of the department store chain.

The move comes after a highly successful, limited-run holiday capsule in late 2025 that proved Canadian consumers still have a deep emotional connection to the heritage brand. Eva Salem, CTC’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Brand, noted that the initial response exceeded all expectations, with many items selling out immediately. This new summer line is designed to build on that momentum by integrating the stripes into Hudson’s Bay products that reflect how Canadians live today, moving beyond simple nostalgia and into functional, modern outdoor living.

The 2026 summer collection includes a variety of items intended for the cottage, the backyard, and the waterfront. While it features staples like beach towels, outdoor cushions, and the legendary wool point blankets, it also introduces “net new” Hudson’s Bay products specifically developed by CTC’s internal design teams. These include trendy seasonal items such as a pickleball set and a cornhole game, as well as a range of backyard furniture and housewares like mugs, aprons, and oven mitts.

A highlight of the collection is the emphasis on domestic craftsmanship. Several of the flagship Hudson’s Bay products are manufactured within Canada, including a custom cedar stripe canoe, a classic Muskoka chair, and decorative paddles. While the 16-foot cedar canoe carries a premium price tag, other items are priced more accessibly, with mugs starting at $8 and cushions around $30. This tiered pricing strategy ensures that the brand remains attainable for a wide demographic of shoppers in Oshawa and across the Durham Region who no longer have access to high-end department stores.

In a first for the brand’s new era, select Hudson’s Bay products will also be available at Mark’s stores, another subsidiary of the Canadian Tire family. This expanded distribution network ensures that residents in Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering can easily access the collection at their local neighborhood hubs rather than traveling to major regional shopping centers. As the May 1 launch date approaches, CTC expects high demand, particularly for the limited-edition seasonal items. The corporation has indicated that while some products will become “evergreen” staples, the seasonal collections will continue to evolve through direct feedback from the public, ensuring the 355-year-old brand remains relevant in a modern retail environment.
