Drivers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including Durham Region, can expect another rise in gas prices starting Thursday, March 26, 2026. According to gaswizard.ca, fuel prices in the region are set to increase by 7 cents per litre, bringing the cost of regular gasoline to $1.729 per litre.
After a brief relief at the pumps on Wednesday, where gas prices dropped by 13 cents, the prices are expected to climb again, reversing the recent dip. On Wednesday, the cost of a regular litre of gas dropped to $1.659, while premium and diesel prices also saw reductions of 13 cents and 20 cents, respectively, bringing them to $1.959 for premium and $2.179 for diesel.
However, the relief at the pumps will be short-lived. Starting Thursday, regular gasoline prices will jump by 7 cents, and premium fuel will see an increase of the same amount, reaching $2.029 per litre. Diesel will also rise by 10 cents, reaching $2.279 per litre.
Dan McTeague of gaswizard.ca advises drivers to fill up on Wednesday to take advantage of the lower prices before the increase takes effect. The price fluctuations come amid ongoing volatility in global oil markets, driven in part by the conflict in the Middle East, which has had a significant impact on fuel costs across the region.
In Durham Region and other parts of the Greater Toronto Area, these price increases are adding to the already high cost of living, and many residents are feeling the pressure at the pumps. With the rising cost of fuel, consumers are increasingly concerned about how this will affect their daily expenses, particularly in the transportation sector, where many rely on personal vehicles for commuting and errands.
This ongoing fluctuation in fuel prices is not new. Over the past several months, drivers in the GTA and Durham Region have witnessed significant swings in fuel costs, with prices rising and falling in response to both global and local factors. The increase in fuel prices is also contributing to the growing concern over inflation, as higher fuel costs are pushing up the prices of other goods and services that depend on transportation.
As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, drivers are encouraged to keep an eye on the trends and adjust their fueling habits accordingly. Gaswizard.ca continues to track these changes and provides up-to-date forecasts to help consumers plan when and where to fill up.
While the rise in gas prices is a setback for many, it is a reflection of the complex and dynamic nature of global oil markets. As Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, and other Durham Region cities continue to grow, the impact of these price changes will continue to be felt by commuters, families, and businesses across the region.
