The event will take place on April 11, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Region of Durham Headquarters located at 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby. It is designed to introduce attendees to the wide range of career paths available in early learning and child care, while also connecting them directly with employers and training institutions.

Organizers say the need for qualified professionals in early childhood education continues to grow across Durham Region. As demand for child care services increases, so does the need for trained educators and support staff who can provide high-quality care and learning experiences for children.

The job fair will provide attendees with the opportunity to meet local child care organizations, learn about available job openings, and explore post-secondary education programs that lead to careers in the field. This makes the event valuable not only for those currently seeking employment but also for students and individuals considering a career change.

One of the key highlights of the event is a Student and Professional Panel scheduled for 10:30 a.m., where participants can hear directly from individuals working in the sector. The panel will offer insights into career pathways, challenges, and the rewards of working in early childhood education.

At 11 a.m., attendees will have the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker Jill Javelosa, a Registered Early Childhood Educator with over 20 years of experience. Javelosa is known for her work in family support, early learning, and community engagement. She is also an author, speaker, and consultant who specializes in curriculum development and innovative program design focused on children and families.

Her keynote is expected to provide valuable perspectives on the importance of early learning and the role educators play in shaping child development and community well-being.

The event also aims to raise awareness about careers in early learning and child care, encouraging more individuals to enter the profession. With ongoing workforce shortages, initiatives like this are seen as essential in building a sustainable and skilled workforce for the future.

Residents interested in pursuing a career in this field are encouraged to attend and learn more about becoming a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE). Additional information is available through Durham Region resources.

As Durham Region continues to grow, events like this job fair play a key role in ensuring that essential services like child care are supported by qualified and passionate professionals.
