Durham Regional Police are investigating a second stabbing incident in less than three weeks at a support centre for unsheltered individuals in Ajax, Ontario.
The latest incident occurred on Monday evening, March 9, 2026, at the Christian Faith Outreach Centre on Commercial Avenue, a facility that provides support services to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Police responded to an armed person call at approximately 6:40 p.m. after receiving reports of an altercation inside the facility.
According to investigators, two men became involved in a dispute, during which one of the individuals allegedly produced a knife and slashed the other man.
The suspect fled the scene shortly after the assault. However, officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect a short time later, Durham Regional Police said.
The victim was transported to Ajax-Pickering Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have identified the suspect as Donovan Wilson, 60, of Whitby.
Wilson has been charged with several offences, including:
-
Aggravated assault
-
Possession of a dangerous weapon
-
Two counts of breach of probation
Investigators say the accused was already under a court order prohibiting him from possessing weapons at the time of the incident.
Wilson was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or who has video evidence to come forward. Police are particularly interested in cell phone recordings, dash cam footage or surveillance video from the area.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Constable Ananthamurugan of Durham Regional Police West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1901.
This incident marks the second violent attack reported at the same facility in the past 17 days.
On February 20, police responded to another stabbing at the Christian Faith Outreach Centre shortly after 6 a.m. that morning.
In that earlier case, officers reported that an argument between two men escalated, resulting in one individual being stabbed with what police described as an “edged weapon.”
The victim in that incident was transported to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries.
Police arrested the suspect, identified as Patrick Bless Evbuoman, 33, of no fixed address, at the scene.
Evbuoman had also sustained minor injuries during the altercation and was taken to hospital before being taken into police custody.
He was later charged with:
-
Three counts of assault
-
Possession of a dangerous weapon
-
Breach of probation
Evbuoman was also held for a bail hearing.
Durham Regional Police have not indicated whether the two incidents are related but continue to investigate both cases.
The Christian Faith Outreach Centre, which opened in 2022, operates as a low-barrier service hub providing support, outreach services and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness or facing housing insecurity in Durham Region.
Police say investigations remain ongoing.
