Ontario Manufacturing Investment Durham Region is receiving a boost after the provincial government announced a major investment in Bowmanville to support local manufacturing and create new jobs.
The Ontario government confirmed that Ganawa Company will invest $4,309,216 to expand operations in Bowmanville, located in the Municipality of Clarington. The project is expected to create 15 new well-paying jobs in the Riding of Durham.
The announcement was made by Todd McCarthy, Member of Provincial Parliament for Durham, who highlighted the importance of strengthening local manufacturing and supply chains.
Through this Ontario Manufacturing Investment Durham Region initiative, Ganawa plans to upgrade its facility and reshore the manufacturing of strip seal retainers from the United States. These components are used in bridge construction projects across Canada.
The company will also invest in advanced manufacturing technology including a robotic laser material processing system, a welding robot, and a five-axis CNC milling centre.
To support the project, the Ontario government is providing $646,382 in funding through the Regional Development Program. The funding is part of the program’s initiative to support technology integration, skilled labour hiring, and manufacturing reshoring.
Company representative Mark Philpott said the investment will help strengthen a “Made in Canada” supply chain and support Ontario’s Build Ontario Plan.
The provincial government says supporting projects like this Ontario Manufacturing Investment Durham Region helps create stable jobs, strengthen manufacturing, and improve supply chain resilience across the province.
