1. Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS)
The Canadian retirement benefits system includes several important programs to support seniors. The Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) offers a maximum monthly payment of $1,433 for individuals over 65 years old. The Old Age Security (OAS) pension is available to individuals aged 65 to 74 with an annual income below $148,451 and provides up to $707.67 per month. For individuals 75 and over, the OAS can reach up to $899.67 per month if their income is below $154,196. OAS payments are reviewed quarterly to reflect the cost of living, but they will not decrease if the cost of living declines. The next OAS payment will be March 27.

2. Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
The Canada Revenue Agency oversees the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), which is a tax-free monthly benefit designed to support families with children under 18 years old. The CCB is income-tested, and the next payment will be issued on March 20. Ontario residents are also eligible for the Ontario Child Benefit, which offers up to $1,607 annually per child, depending on family income.

3. Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB)
The Ontario Trillium Benefit helps to ease the financial burden of energy and property tax costs for Ontario residents. This benefit includes the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Northern Ontario Energy Credit, and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit. The next OTB payment is scheduled for March 10.

4. Canada Disability Benefit
The Canada Disability Benefit provides monthly financial support for eligible adults aged 18 to 64 with disabilities. The maximum payment is $200 per month or $2,400 annually. This benefit is income-tested and will also include potential back pay for periods after June 2025. The next payment is set for March 19.

5. Veteran Disability Pension
The Veteran Disability Pension is a tax-free monthly payment for veterans and service members with service-related injuries or illnesses. The pension is available to members of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, and some veterans of the Second World War and Korean War. The next payment will be issued on March 28.

6. Benefits for Children Under 25
Part-time students aged 18 to 24 with a deceased or disabled parent who contributed to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) may now qualify for financial support. Eligible students will receive $150.89 per month, starting in 2025. This new benefit is similar to the existing program for full-time students, who will receive $301.77 per month in 2025.

7. Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit
A new initiative to support families with groceries and essential products is also in the works. Further details are expected to be released as the government works on providing additional support for everyday needs.

For those in Durham Region and across Ontario, these benefit cheques represent critical support for individuals and families. If you’re eligible, ensure to check the specific dates for the benefits relevant to you and plan accordingly.
