The Whitby elevator upgrade at the Civic Recreation Complex is scheduled to begin October 26, with the town expecting the work to be finished by October 29.
The October 22 service notice says the elevator will be out of service during the upgrades. Visitors who need the lower level and cannot use the stairs are asked to speak with reception staff.
Lower-level access through staff entrance
The town says staff can assist those visitors with access through the staff entrance. It also states that no alternative lifting device will be available during the disruption.
The notice gives an expected completion date, not a guarantee that the elevator will reopen at a particular hour. Anyone relying on step-free access should check the town’s current notice and speak with reception before attending a lower-level activity.
New schedule materially changes earlier notice
All About Durham reported a separate open-ended elevator disruption at the same complex in September. This announcement provides a defined upgrade period and specific lower-level access arrangements; it does not establish when the earlier outage ended.
The Whitby elevator upgrade notice concerns the elevator itself. It does not announce a closure of the entire recreation complex or cancellation of all programmes.
