The Region of Durham has officially opened applications for the Durham Region’s Thriving Communities Fund, an initiative designed to help local non-profit organizations strengthen their ability to reduce poverty and enhance community services. The fund, which is now accepting applications, aims to empower organizations that provide essential programs and services to Durham residents.

The Thriving Communities Fund will support non-profits working on operational or capacity-building activities that improve their ability to deliver key programs to the community. Non-profits that have a focus on reducing poverty, increasing access to services, or tackling social issues can apply for financial support to enhance their operations. This fund is an excellent opportunity for organizations to further their missions and extend their impact in the Durham Region.

Each approved application can receive up to $50,000, which will be allocated to projects that can demonstrate the capacity to make a significant, positive impact. The Region of Durham has stressed that this funding is aimed at increasing the effectiveness and sustainability of local non-profits, ensuring that they can continue addressing the diverse and pressing needs of the community.

The deadline for non-profit organizations to submit their applications is March 26, 2026, by 12:00 p.m. Interested organizations are encouraged to visit the Durham Region website at durham.ca/CSIP to access the application guidelines and submit their proposals.

By supporting these organizations, Durham Region is working to build a stronger, more inclusive community for all residents. Non-profits play a crucial role in Durham’s social fabric, providing critical services ranging from education and healthcare to poverty alleviation and community engagement. These organizations often serve vulnerable populations, and the Thriving Communities Fund aims to equip them with the resources they need to continue and expand their work.

In addition to this fund, the Sustainable Food Security Fund, focused specifically on projects addressing food insecurity, will be launched on May 4, 2026. Organizations with ideas and initiatives in this area will be able to apply for this new funding opportunity in the spring, further strengthening Durham’s commitment to tackling community challenges.

Councillors and community leaders in Durham Region have highlighted the importance of these funding opportunities, emphasizing that non-profits are integral to the overall well-being of residents. Durham Region is known for its strong network of non-profit organizations, and the Thriving Communities Fund will ensure that these organizations remain well-equipped to meet the needs of the community.

Organizations with project ideas aimed at poverty reduction or those looking to expand their services and outreach are strongly encouraged to apply. As the fund is designed to help build the capacity of local non-profits, those focused on issues like homelessness, mental health, and youth engagement will also find the funding beneficial.

The Thriving Communities Fund represents a critical investment in Durham Region’s future. By supporting non-profits, the region is helping to create a more vibrant, resilient, and equitable community for all residents. For those interested in applying, now is the time to act, with the deadline fast approaching.
