Durham Regional Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with Durham Region’s ninth homicide of 2025.
Police responded to a call at approximately 4:15 a.m. on December 23, 2025, in the area of Park Road South and John Street in Oshawa. Officers located a man suffering from stab wounds on the roadway. The victim was later identified as 44-year-old Jeremy Russell.
Russell was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators first arrested Nicholas Robbins on December 23, 2025. A second suspect, Michael Waterman, was taken into custody on December 26, 2025, by Peterborough Regional Police in connection with an unrelated homicide investigation.
On January 5, 2026, members of the Durham Regional Police Service Homicide Unit assumed custody of Waterman and charged him with second-degree murder.
Waterman, 44, of Oshawa, was held for a bail hearing.
Police are continuing the investigation and are asking anyone with cellphone footage, dash cam video, surveillance footage, or information related to the incident to contact Detective Green of the Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5319.

Police note that all charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
