Motorists are being advised to stay off certain northern Durham roads as dangerous winter conditions continue following Monday night’s storm.
Durham Regional Police and emergency officials are warning drivers to avoid Lake Ridge Road and Scugog Line 12, where freezing rain, blowing snow, and strong winds have created extremely slippery and hazardous conditions. Whiteout visibility has also been reported in open areas.
Environment Canada has issued a yellow snow squall warning for the area, forecasting ongoing flurries overnight with 5 to 10 cm of additional snowfall, and more snow expected midweek. Rapidly changing conditions, drifting snow, and reduced visibility remain a serious concern.
Police are urging motorists to use alternate routes, reduce speed, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
