Durham Region residents can dispose of their natural Christmas trees through curbside waste collection beginning next week, with pick-up dates varying by municipality.
Collection Schedule by Municipality
- Pickering, Ajax, Clarington, Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge
Christmas trees will be collected on regular waste collection days during the weeks of January 5 and January 12. - Whitby
- Blue collection schedule: Week of January 12
- Yellow collection schedule: Week of January 19
- Oshawa
Residents must place trees at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, January 12.
Collection will take place throughout the week of January 12 to 16 and may not coincide with regular waste pickup days.
Important Guidelines for Tree Collection
Residents are reminded to follow these rules to ensure their tree is collected:
- Remove all decorations, including tinsel, lights, bulbs, wire, nails, tree stands and plastic bags.
- Place trees at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day, but no earlier than 7 p.m. the night before.
- Do not bag trees — trees placed in plastic bags will not be collected.
- Trees taller than three metres (10 feet) must be cut in half.
- Ensure trees are not frozen to the ground or buried in snowbanks.
- Do not place trees on top of or behind snowbanks — they must be fully accessible.
- There is no limit to the number of trees collected per household.
